Founded in 1969, Capital Rentals began as a general rental store with one location in Rockville, MD. Our founder, Robert Vaughan, opened the store as an A to Z Rentals franchise after holding various positions with the federal government. When the franchisor went out of business in 1971, the trade name of the store changed to Rockville Rental Center. In 1976, Capital Rentals was incorporated in the state of Maryland.

Capital Rentals expanded in 1980 with the opening of a location in Fairfax, Virginia, and again in 1988 with the opening of a third location in Manassas. Capital Rentals has continued to grow in the interim, adding several additional locations from which to better serve our customers.

Capital Rentals has added specialty product lines as we have grown over the last fifteen years. Diesel generators were the first products to be added and now Capital Rentals has a fleet of over 120 units, ranging in size from 20KW to 320KW. Capital Rentals has proven expertise with telecommunication customers by servicing and maintaining the customer's equipment in remote locations on a 24/7 basis. Capital Rentals has subsequently added several other specialty lines, including material handling equipment, highway safety equipment, and large diesel and electric pumps. In 2002, Capital Rentals added its first trench shoring products and an in-house shoring specialist to assist our customers in proper selection and use of the product. In 2008, Capital Rentals added concrete reinforcing and forming supplies.

Capital Rentals currently has seven locations serving the entire Metropolitan Washington, DC area and surrounding markets.
